While the benefits of autonomous driving on sustainability are less clear (see case study in this magazine), AI can also be used to achieve a modal shift to greener options such as cargo bikes. Accurate solar and wind forecasts are important to optimize the scheduling of flexible loads, such as electric vehicles or flexible industrial processes. AI can support predictive maintenance to ensure a cost-effective and robust operation of sustainable public transportation (like in this project where Birds on Mars supported the Deutsche Bahn in vegetation management with computer vision).
